Have you ever seen in movies that the character is injured and in desperate need of medical attention and it is the hero of the movie who comes to the rescue of the character and wins the heart of everyone. This incident is not just limited to reel life but of utmost importance in real life as well.  



Have you ever heard of Golden Hour? 


The Golden Hour is a well-established concept in emergency medicine, related to the critical period of one hour after an injury, accident or trauma. This term implies that the mortality rates increase substantially if efficient care is not provided within 60 minutes after the trauma. 

As per New English Journal of Medicine, a study published in 2017 revealed the correlation between the time taken for responding to a medical emergency with the % of successful life saved. The result of the study are shown in the adjacent diagram. It can be clearly seen that the first hour of the emergency is one of the most critical factor deciding the survival rate for instance, if the people are attended within 1 hour of accident, the survival rate shoots to 92%. It is easily understood that Golden Hour is a life defining moment for a person who has met an accident. Keeping this fact in mind, today we are going to understand the basics of What, How and Why of essential activities to do in case of medical emergency. This life skill is non-negotiable and should be known to all.
